Catalano Architects is excited to announce that construction has started for this brand new residence in Wellesley, MA. Originally, the 2.3 acre site contained an older 2-story house, pool, detached garage, and tennis court – all of which were demolished. The proposed property will consist of new 2.5-story home and carriage house.
The new owners – a family of six – have expressed a desire to achieve bright, comfortable, inviting spaces that they are able to live and function well in.
The rhythm of the building is composed in five parts with a strong central mass and formal symmetry. As viewed from the street, the mass and scale of the building is largely screened due to the existing and proposed vegetation. Existing trees along all sides of the property line will also serve as a buffer between the neighbors.
The proposed buildings are consistent with the surrounding architecture. Composed of brick, painted cedar clapboards, and slate roof, they will compliment and reflect the surrounding neighborhood’s scale and traditions. The use of handmade, molded bricks are suitable for the character of the building and bring a level of tradition to the façade.
